Service users can access care services in numerous ways. Every type of care services has a referral system .There are three different of methods of referrals in health and social care: Self-referral, Third-party referral and Professional referral.
Self-referral:
Self-referral is when a person applies for a care service by themselves. This includes making an appointment to see you GP (family doctor), calling NHS Direct for information or advice or going to visit the opticians for an eye-test.
Third-party referral:
Third party referral is when a person who is not a care profession, applies for a care service on the behalf of someone else. An example of this is when a daughter calls the GP to make an appointment for her elderly mother, …show more content…
To access any integrated services families must fill a CAF form (Common Assessment Framework) which they give to the receptionist who then enters it in the computer and securely email the family’s details to Enfield Council Children’s Department.

What are barriers?
Barriers are the factors that prevent an individual gaining access to health, social care and early year’s services. In health and social care there are a range of barriers of access: physical, psychological, financial, geographical, and cultural and language, and resources barriers.
Physical barriers:
Physical barriers generally involve problems with the ‘ built environment’ in other words things and objects that are mainly made by humans that prevent an individual from getting where they want to go. Examples of physical barriers are not putting a ramp I place where there are stairs. This prevents wheelchair users from accessing the facility as there are steps to climb. Also narrow doors and flights of stairs may prevent a pushchair user as she will have difficulty pushing the pram along with her.
