Behavior Model: The Importance Of Engaging In Physical Activity

The health behavior that I am choosing to modify is to increase the time I spend engaging in physical activity, daily. In doing so I plan to monitor the days out of the week and amount of time per day that I will engage in a form of exercise. As a first course of action, I am setting a realistic goal. I want to engage in physical activities for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. One of steps of the health behavior model is perceived susceptibility, which means understanding my attitude regarding how likely I am to engage in physical activity. For example taking into consideration if my parents, and sibling are either active or not active and whether I may be susceptible to the same issues. I kept track of days, times, exercise routine, location as to where I chose to workout and a brief description of my overall feeling as to how I felt about the workout before and after. In my log my time choice to workout later in the day helped me maintain consistency and actually helped me feel better and having done it a little in the previous week unintentionally helped me have a desire to increase my workout. I also showed huge improvement in choosing to workout by including a side of sit-ups, arm workouts, or squats. There was also the momentum that kept me going and although not mentioned in my log my friend accompanied me most days and my parents where glad to hear that I had been to the gym more …show more content…
It also has taught me to not be complacent and that it is never to late to start a routine again and showed me how much I actually miss engaging in physical activity. I definitely think I changed my behavior and even though I am done with this project I plan on continuing to go to gym everyday even if it is for only 15 minutes because the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen. I also don’t want to be so critical and harsh on myself because this is a small stepping stone and need to learn to be patient. I am very proud that I have begun working out again. I believe what was most helpful was being able to keep track of what times work best and coming to realize that I was just wasting my free time watching Netflix something that isn’t beneficial. In general, I do think these types of behavioral modification programs are likely to help someone to a certain extent. I think this behavioral modification program was great in getting me started and helping me understand the barriers and what exactly I need to do to overcome many of my personal issues. But, at the end of the day you can never force someone to do something they don’t want to he or she need to want the change and prepare for it mentally and
