What does it mean to be resilient? When I think of resilience, I think of my prior experiences of overcoming my biggest challenges in life. I pushed myself through pain and frustration to improve my life. During my early teens, as a result of being overweight, I faced difficulties such as bullies and health problems. I felt that there would be no end to my suffering. I was overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. My doctors constantly reminded me of my issues, saying, “You need to lose weight!”. I realized it was too big of an issue to ignore, so I decided to make a change for the better. I began by asking myself what could be done to solve my biggest problems. I suspected that working out could help me, so I gave it a try. I got a membership to LA Fitness at the age of 13 and began a workout routine. I quickly noticed a boost of positive energy. I stayed away from the gym for nearly 2 years. Once again I started hearing “You need to lose weight!”. I reflected on my prior struggles and my ways of solving them, and I knew that I needed to get back to working out. It was a tough transition getting back into a routine and finding new workouts I had never done before. Making a commitment to myself, I knew that I wasn’t going to give up this time. I lost around 60 pounds and I felt great. This was good, but I knew that I could do even better. I kept training harder and harder at the gym, going 5 days a week. Through all of this training, I came to the realization that working out had a much more profound effect on me. It wasn’t all about looking better, it was about strengthening my willpower and resilience. I learned what it was like to make a long term goal a reality. To this day, I still go to the gym 5 days a week and look back on what I accomplished. I have reached a point in my life where I want to apply that resilience to a career in
