Latin American Corporate Culture Summary

The author explains the corporate culture with the three subtypes: commitment to task, personal relationship, and task-oriented. His findings show there was no distinction made between the different subgroups and talks about how different cultures identify themselves. Trompenaars’ and Hampden-Turner dimension is when people need to put personal life before business. They believe that having a good relationship at work is important before focusing on business objectives. The diffuse dimension is the degree of involvement in personal relationship among colleagues in the Latin American company. External control among the Latins and Europeans the Europeans score is higher 0.5 than Latins. The score for locals versus expats the expats score is higher 0.4 than locals. This means that external control is more important to the foreigners that to the locals of Latin America. Particularism is where people believe each circumstance is different and their response may change depending on what happens at that moment and who is involved. In the survey the Europeans versus Latins the score is higher for the Europeans meaning they could change their mind and are more flexible in making decisions than the Latins. They must learn to communicate, negotiate and lead in cultural context for different countries (Browaeys & Price, 2015). When dealing with international business it shows good business practice when there is a mixture of diversity within a company. The customers feel they are getting the best from a global company by having diversity (Browaeys & Price, 2015).
