In this paper you can read about the wonderful activities and programs that the city of Columbus has to offer to the young people. It will explore the school system of Columbus City Schools (CCS), a public school system for the people of the city. You will learn about the schools and how they have many different resources or all kinds of children ranging from disabled students to mentally ill students. It will also give you information on the large variety of classes and advanced placement programs that help further your child's learning experience. You will also discover the several fun non-school related activities and groups that the children can be involved in. Such activities are the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the boys scouts and girl scouts, COSI (Center of Science and Industry), and the various concert venues throughout the downtown area. The children have many learning and growing opportunities in the city of Columbus. Keywords: Columbus City Schools, Center of Science and Industry My hometown is right in the middle of Ohio and is one of the three biggest cities in the entire state. Columbus, Ohio’s capital, is a place of many busy people and busy places. There is a guarantee that you can find something to do every single day you spend in this large city whether it is going to eat at one of the many cultural restaurants or touring the city to see all of the historical sites. There are also several programs for the youth including many sports teams, and fun indoor/outdoor events. No matter where you go in Columbus, Ohio, there are plenty of things to do, especially for the young people of this great city. Educational System There are many different schools you can choose from for your child’s education and most of them are going to be a wonderful choice and experience for a growing child. …show more content…
The city is large so there are many options to choose from. For example; there are private schools, charter schools, religious academies, Handicapable schools, and the public school system is excellent as well. Since the city is large there is also a lot of money within the schools so your kids can get the best resources that they need to have a high quality education. Going to school personally at a Handicapable school when I lived there, I can say that they most definitely gave 110% of their effort to make sure each and every one of their students had a phenomenal time in their educational career. There is also a wide diversity in the classes you can take in high school and junior high. The Columbus City Schools (or CCS) offer many different classes such as drama, home economics, and several different languages such as sign language, Spanish, French, and many more. This allows the children to be culturally intelligent and open to a vast range of intellectual aspects. As a former student of Columbus City Schools I can vouch for this when I say that they have all the programs a child could need in every aspect of special needs whether it be mentally disabled or arithmetically brilliant. CCS has a gifted and talented program for the young advanced students and there are also AP (advanced placement) classes, IB (International Baccalaureate) classes, and also a Columbus gifted academy. If your child is mentally disabled they also have plenty of employees to help children in need. Fun Activities to do All Year Throughout the entire year there are many fascinating things for your children …show more content…
As a kid myself growing up in Columbus I can say that I spent many rainy days at COSI and I had tons of fun. There is an Ocean exhibit which takes you through a darkened room with walls made out of coral reefs with several water stations that can teach your child a variety of things such as the way waves are made and how they move, and an explorative camera station that you can look around a small marina and see some of the life of the ocean. There are many other exciting and educational places throughout the building that I would discuss, but I suggest that you go check it out yourself with your children! You will not regret

When compared with suburban schools, inner city schools seriously lack funding. According to Chicago Board of Education, “In the city of Chicago $6,000 - $9,500 is spent per student per year for their education. Farther out in Illinois like Macomb $22,000 - $35,000 is spent per year per student” (http://www.cpsboe.org/content/documents/fy2014_budget_proposal.pdf). Inner cities do not make a large enough budget for their students. It's unfair to the students because they have to work even harder for their education.…

I chose to attend a community college for three main reasons: affordability, location, and small classes. Right out of high school I started college at a public, four-year college, University of River Falls; I had to drop out a month in due to medical issues. At that time I was unaware that I could make a medical appeal and get a full refund, so when I tried college again I was over a thousand dollars in debt from my first attempt. I’m on disability, so my income is limited and I can’t work that many hours. The location of my current community college, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, is right by most of my doctors, so the location is a great fit for me.…

While attending Eastern Kentucky University where I obtained my BS in Occupational Therapy, I knew that I wanted to serve others not only in direct patient care, but also in a leadership role. Early in my career I began taking on leadership responsibilities by becoming the lead therapist at the first offsite satellite location at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. I began managing the OTPT location budget, handling the waitlist for therapy services, and serving as the liaison between the satellite location and OTPT management. Taking on these responsibilities was extremely gratifying. I was able to continue treating children while also contributing to the financial success and business functions of our small offsite location.…

I strongly feel that the children are in disadvantage from other children. The food that the children eat may not be the best so they are not well nourished as a regular child.…

There are a number of resources that will be playing their individual role in regards to the students and their academics. Even though there are after school programs present in the school after school hours for average level academic students, it should be more for the low academic students as stated throughout the paper. The after school program is to take place during after school hours for about 45 minutes, as additional learning. There are about three teachers in each of the 1st to 5th grade classes, so the extra help for the students can take place in each of the classes for the stated grades. Only if there is consistent availability for the teachers during the afterhours of school.…
