El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas

8:30 a.m.
It was an unusually chilly and foggy day for September in Texas. Millie got out of her white Aleko and grabbed her yellow knit sweater that was draped across the passenger seat. She was reaching for her backpack, which was in the back seat of her car, when the first bell rang.
Millie raced across the parking lot, up the concrete steps, and pulled the heavy door to the rustic brick building open. There was no one in the halls like there usually is after the first bell. Millie knew she still had four minutes to get to her chemistry class which was on the second floor.
On her way to the staircase, she noticed a light was on in the basement. Millie had never been in her school’s basement before and figured that she wouldn’t miss much in chemistry today. She slowly opened the metal door, making sure that it softly shut behind her.
The basement was dimly lit and it took Millie’s eyes a minute to adjust to the sudden change of light. It smelled like a mixture of mold and old gym socks. The steps creaked

and Millie was never seen again.

The El Paso High School had just reopened after a 20-year break and Bobby and Barris had been following Principal Archibald around all day. Principal Archibald had been the one who urged the high school reopen, but no one knew why it was closed. Bobby and Barris thought they had broken the code when they broke into the basement at back-to-school night but only coming out empty handed and on Archibald’s ‘bad guys’ list for the new school year. They came back to school this morning only to find that the basement has been caged off from the rest of the school.
Bobby found Archibald at morning and asked, “Hey, Principal Archibald, I just noticed that the basement is all off limits and stuff. What’s the deal with that?”
Principal Archibald told him, in a monotone voice, “Student safety.” Then, he walked away

Ever since Gale Ranch opened, there has been a school dress code. Gale Ranch students melted into a pool of anger and are now breaking it. Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

After putting on our bright pink leotards and ballet shoes, which trust me we're not the most fashionable, we went out to the car to wait on Dianna’s mom. I should mention it was still raining as if the earth would flood outside, this made it slightly hard to hear but we ran out to the car anyway. Me, Dianna, and Dalton bolted through the door, sprinting to the car that Dianna had unlocked with the small remote. The cold rain made the humid, hot day not feel as bad as the rest of that summer had been, which was dry and hot. When we got into the car we sat for a bit but then Dianna decided she wanted to turn on the music so she jumps to the front seat of the car.…

“The mission of Lincoln Charter School is to facilitate the development of college ready individuals through emphasis on rigorous academics and our community expectations: honesty, respect, empathy, responsibility, service and preparedness.” (Lincolncharter.org) One major community I am a member of is the junior class at Lincoln Charter. Lincoln Charter juniors is the tightest community in the school because we are classified by the Swales Six characteristics. After observing and interviewing students throughout the entire junior class of Lincoln Charter, I noticed that there are multiple cases of similarities that the classmates share in common, communication between the classmates, sports and clubs they are involved in, and the overall goal as juniors.…

During the months of January and February, I observed the theatre tech class at Valley Center High School. The tech class includes Edie Reese, Conner Peterson, Madison Isham, Pattanun ‘Bell’ Punjanun, Michael Charvat, Chris Paul, Jacque Toews, Sabrina Gamblin, Ashlyn Pollard, Trace Tobin, Tommy Brown, Janett Duerksen, Kaitie Showalter, and me. We meet everyday during fourth hour, which is from 10:38 to 11:30. I chose my tech class to observe because it is a social group that I see every single day and it is about half the size of my normal classes. We also have some of the same values; we want to build things fast, but also make sure they are built safely and we all enjoy discussing different movies while working.…

While Crooks was upstairs reading his favorite book, California Civil Code of 1905, his dad called for him from downstairs. “Boy, stop reading that darn book and help me with feeding the chickens. One of the two roosters got out and are fighting again, and now I have to go and break it up before it gets messy.” Crooks put down his book, but right before he was about to open the door to go outside his mom called for him from the kitchen. “Crooks, that nice, young kid Georgie and his brother Tom were here earlier.…

Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. During the observation assignment I noticed a few of the developmental theories that correlated with the five developmental stages of middle school students: Bronfenbrenner, Erikson, and Hall.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…
