While attending Eastern Kentucky University where I obtained my BS in Occupational Therapy, I knew that I wanted to serve others not only in direct patient care, but also in a leadership role. Early in my career I began taking on leadership responsibilities by becoming the lead therapist at the first offsite satellite location at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. I began managing the OTPT location budget, handling the waitlist for therapy services, and serving as the liaison between the satellite location and OTPT management. Taking on these responsibilities was extremely gratifying. I was able to continue treating children while also contributing to the financial success and business functions of our small offsite location.

This will add significant responsibility to my current role which is more focused on operations. Attaining further education in organizational leadership will bolster my knowledge, skills and confidence in leading others.
Obtaining a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership in the Healthcare Management track at Quinnipiac University will assist me in obtaining my professional and educational goals. I am excited to learn more about leading others through organizational change. The past year, Cincinnati Children’s has had more change than most other years combined. Changes in healthcare reform, reimbursement, and the economy in general have forced some very difficult management decisions at the highest level within Cincinnati Children’s. These changes have had a direct impact on the OTPT Department.
Understanding health care policy and the politics involved in healthcare is also of great interest. My knowledge in this area is limited to OTPT and gaining a broader understanding of policy will inform my decision making as a
