Rao (2011) stated “Collaborative interactions exhibit a blending of professional cultures and are achieved though sharing skills and knowledge to improve the quality of patient care”. This approach supports the collaborative team making decisions that healthcare professions require to maintain and uphold the health, wellbeing and social issues presented in the patient. This collaborative approach also allows for a wider scope of practice with the involvement of specialists while still ensuring that the patient is obtaining optimal healthcare goals designed for their individual needs. Shared responsibility without effective communication or high-quality team work healthcare professionals cannot provide qualitative care and this can result to immediate risks for the patient (O’Daniel, 2012).
