My Leadership Style And Situational Approach

In my current position, I am the third lead supervisor in charge of approximately 180 personnel. When one person goes on their two week vacation, I have to cover down on those duties until they return so it’s important that I know all the responsibilities of the two positions above me. My leadership style is very approachable and I make myself part of the team. When I say approachable, this doesn’t mean that I have to be liked and accepted by my personnel, but I build a relationship that gives them confidence with me. Another respected trait I feel I own is that I am willing to teach and train my employees. Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

Personal Philosophy After completing the leadership inventory, I came to find that I had equal amounts of each of the four leadership styles. Personally, I thought my primary leadership style was analytical and my secondary leadership style was supportive. I did not see myself as being directive or adaptive, so I was surprised at the results. By having equal amounts of all four leadership styles, I will be able to use all the different characteristics of these leadership styles to aid in my success as a teacher.…

Over the course of Non-commissioned Officer Academy, I reflected on the type I have been throughout my Air Force career and the leadership style that I now adopted. I have changed different types of leadership styles depending on the situations. I have learn my approach to my subordinates, peers, and supervisor that I preferred to lead using Management by Exception-Passive (MBE-P). I realize this is an ineffective approach since my subordinates will only perform at the standard I set during our feedback.…

Completing the assessment on conflict management I was able to determine my conflict management style from highest to lowest. My highest conflict handling style was compromising with avoiding being my lowest. During the assessment questions I based my answers on how I would handle situations at work. At work I approach conflicts in a manner in which is best for the company, achieves a long term solution and what option is the most financially feasible. Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
