One of the main qualities an employer usually looks at first are the qualifications that the applicant has. This is done because it gives the employer an impression or a sense of what the applicant is capable of and what the can potentially achieve. Also it shows how much dedication the applicant has put into their education and how much they care about their future. For example, an applicant who is applying for a job as a customer assistant at Tesco will have to have some sort of qualification or experience to show that they are capable of the role. For example, a customer assistant may have a qualification in GCSE English Language in order to prove that they are ready or can handle the communication part of the job. Or a Checkout assistant must have some experience in IT in order to perform their job effectively.

A good customer service skill to possess is having an adequate amount of knowledge about their companies’ products. Employees who do not have a proper understanding of the company’s product they are more likely to make mistakes and show the inability to help the customer with their problem. This is very important as the customer may rely on the knowledge of the customer service assistant.
As the duty of a customer service assistant is to solve any problem a customer has or to answer any queries, they must have good communication skills such as being articulate, eloquent and good at problem solving in order to perform their job effectively. Knowing the right or correct terms will give the customer more confidence in doing what they have been told to do. Furthermore, it will allow the situation to be solved more
