Carolinas Healthcare System is one of the largest healthcare organizations throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. Carolinas Healthcare system was an “outgrowth of a community hospital originally founded in 1940” (Carolinas Healthcare System, 2015). “The diverse network of providers in the Carolinas Healthcare System has 900 care locations to includes academic medical centers, hospitals, healthcare pavilions, physician practices, destination centers, surgical and rehabilitation centers, home health agencies, nursing homes, and hospice and palliative care” (Carolinas Healthcare System, 2015). I am currently working in one of the hospitals. The hospital is a safe haven for the physically and mentally impaired.

It is through these daily interactions coworkers are able to try to come together to pool resources and help share the load of the others if it is possible. Every week I see many of the same faces and so they have become like a second extended family. Within the family everyone seems to have an understanding of the others on the team. Based on my experiences and observations everyone seems to work well together and pull together when it really counts. There doesn’t appear to be any individuals on the team. Each person seems to do what is necessary for the success of the unit. Conflict resolution is an ongoing process that is always present. Communication appears to be a continuous work in progress. In the past there have been language barriers between staff members and patients which limit the effectiveness of the services being provided. Through a new system, translator on a stick, staff members are able to take a computer into a room to help facilitate discussion and ask questions to those in need. The organization works regularly to keep the lines of communication between management and employees open and flowing nonstop both ways. There appears to be an ever-present respect for the work and workers spoken and unspoken. They are cutting edge with recruiting the best and striving to always stay at the top of the game. They are always striving towards being the best in technology innovations. The goal is always to be ahead of the rest by being one step above. In the last couple years there has been a full transition to electronic medical records across all of CHS. This technological advance allows for web based referrals and documentation that interacts with the electronic medical record. Through strong, diverse leadership CHS has been able to remain a steady growing competitive healthcare organization. I believe leadership is only as strong as followship. As an individual with limited access to many within the whole organization I am of the opinion that individuals that are in leadership where I am located on the lower levels are the best suited individuals for the job. I think there are some individuals that would be better in different positions suited to better fit their personalities and character but this happens in every organization. In my current placement all current employees are equipped professionally to handle the demanding needs of their jobs respectively. The current concern that appears present weekly is a lack of overall medical staff. Every week at bed meeting it is clear that almost every unit faces a staffing shortage which can be nurses, a sitter, a CNA, or a secretary. Regardless of the odds
