The human service agency I chose is the Behavioral Health Unit located in the Lake Cumberland hospital. The mission statement of this organization is leading the way to better healthcare by providing the level of care for our patients that we would want for our own families (Lake Cumberland Hospital, 2018). The goal is to be the healthcare leader in our area, providing excellent care with kindness and compassion (Lake Cumberland Hospital, 2018).

The unit director at different times takes on different leadership decisions. This leadership style foucuses on team based problem solving where the leader endeavors to attain team goals (Northouse, 2016). Northouse (2016) states that successful leaders determine which intervention to use at which time. Paula monitors the census, the acuity of the patients, services needed, she meets with patients to discuss their personal needs and how they perceive the unit.
At times Paula is task oriented and others she relational oriented. She focuses on teamwork and what is needed to achieve specific goals. She also focuses on the safety of the unit and advocates for wellbeing of staff (Northouse, 2016). Multiple times a week she meets with the counselors and the clinical coordinator to determine the patients to be discharged, difficult cases, stressors in employees lives, and the impact on the casework this demonstrates her relational actions. the team performs ananomys evaluations. This is another portion of the team leadership model. Team effectivness is the overall objective of the team leadership model (Northouse, 2016). Last year this evaluation was conducted and the unit director had a ninety-one percent approval rating (Brummett, 2018). One hundred percent of the the staff stated that they were proud of what they do at the Behavioral Health Unit.
