There has been a great deal of controversy recently about removing capital punishment from the justice system, but there are many reasons to keep capital punishment as part of the justice system. Capital punishment is a necessary part of American society to make sure the law is respected and followed. Capital punishment should be given to a person who is convicted for severe crimes. The only punishment that deters severe crimes like murder, rape, and drug trafficking is the death penalty (Beck). Murder is a very serious crime, so criminals who kill someone do not deserve to live and deserve strict punishment like the death penalty. A rapist is also very dangerous to the society as he can destroy the future of other people by raping them. Capital punishment also deters treason. Treason is a serious crime as no one is allowed to go against the country they live in. Capital punishment should also be given for any terrorist activities which are threat to nation’s security. Terrorists are the biggest threat to world peace today. Terrorists have killed thousands of people and want to kill more. The only punishment they deserve is the death penalty; it is the only way to protect the country’s security from future attack like September 11th, 2001 (Osborne 228). Criminals involved in repetitive kidnapping cases also deserve to be put on the death row.
