Does the death penalty deter crime, especially murder? Is the death penalty just? Should the death penalty be reformed? The death penalty also known as capital punishment continues to be an issue of controversy for many years. It seems that public opinion on the death penalty has changed over the year and is still changing, but there are still other people who believe that the death penalty is a good punishment and will continue to believe. Most of the time in my life, I often hear “An eye for an eye.” Most of the people strongly believe that if a criminal took someone’s life, then their lives should be also taken away as well, but I don’t think that will deter anyone from committing crimes because I strongly believe that we should kill the …show more content…
According to Ted Goertzel, “Traditional comparative sociological research, which is far superior to this new econometric method, reveals that the death penalty has no deterrent effect.” In my opinion, death penalty does not deter criminals from committing the crime because a criminal doesn’t care about the outcome and some of them commit crime/murders because of vengeance. I believe that, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,” because whether you commit crime for your vengeance or not, but it still is violence and yes they should be punished but not by giving them the death penalty because how can we teach that killing is wrong by …show more content…
There are also some people who think that the death penalty does not cost more than a life in prison. According to Jon Sorensen, “Given that capital punishment has become more efficient, its cost has been reduced and are actually less than life imprisonment.” They believe that capital punishment is the cheapest way to eliminate ill from the society. If the criminal is given life imprisonment, then all of their expenses will be provided by the government. Instead of spending money on criminals this money can be used for the better development of the society and welfare of the people.
