It mostly matters on the swing states, in this case, New Mexico being one out of the three, for they have citizens with different viewpoints. Why did New Mexico law, not federal (government) law, decide how Bud should recast his vote? New Mexico’s law, not federal law, decides how Bud should recast his vote because the electoral votes are of New Mexico. It doesn’t deal with the decision of the rest of the forty nine states, since the citizens already had cast in their votes and the electoral votes are already gone to the Republican party of the Democratic party. New Mexico has the four electoral votes that could go to either party, and whichever one has 270, the candidate will win the presidential election and become President.…

Suppose that all 50 states turned against each other and broke out in war. Who would be victorious? Many would say that the winner would be Texas, considering their state motto “Don’t mess with Texas”. Others might say that the winner would be New York, because of the attitude that several of their citizens have. Despite these great candidates, the obvious winner would be California, because of its location, its size, and its giant naval base in San Diego.…

I concur with journalists such as V.O. Key, and as of late Jack D. Fleer, who treat North Carolina more favorably than other states in the south. In his work, Key labeled North Carolina a dynamic plutocracy, lauding the state's dynamic viewpoint and activity in numerous stages of life. Furthermore, Fleer composed that North Carolina's citizens illustrated a dynamic soul as pioneers of the state. Impressive evidence underpins the dynamic view of North Carolina legislative issues. North Carolina is known for its political competitiveness.…

1855 was a time of tremendous change in Stockton California. The political scene in California at this time was a mess. There was an emergence of two political parties, The Republican party and the Know Nothing or the American Party. The Whig party was beginning to become completely irrelevant and would soon cease to exist. The Democratic party that dominated the politics of California up to this point was experiencing a fractionalizing into two or three parties throughout the state that competed with one another for the same voting base.…

A state is either for the republican candidate or the democratic candidate. The votes could be forty eight percent for the republican candidate and fifty two percent for the democratic candidate and the democrat would take the state and all the electors for that state. And a lot of states, such as California and Texas are always voting the same way. But if you look at popular vote, is a much more mixed view of things. More than four and a half million Californians voted for McCain (roughly as many votes as he got in Texas), while about forty percent of voters in Alabama backed…

In response to a weakened state economy and corporate monopolies interfering with government a populist movement called the Workingmen’s Party developed in the 1870’s. When a constitutional convention was called in 1878 the Workingmen’s Party elected one-third of the delegates and were able to contribute a number of provisions dealing with corporations. The rise of “progressivism” in California in the early 1900’s was marked by growing concern regarding unrestrained corporate influence on the political process, concentrated economic power, apathy in regards to the political process, the negative impact of humans on the environment, and poor working and living conditions. These sentiments are eerily similar to platforms that Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders ran on. Interestingly, racism played a big part in the platform of progressivism in the early 1900’s, much like it has in this past election…

When Daniel Elazar published his work on state political culture Nevada was an Individualistic state, and still is today. A state that is considered Individualistic has the following characteristics: government is viewed as an extension of the marketplace, government provides people with services they want, but do not interfere with the people’s private lives, politics are ran like a business, and the politicians are well-paid business men and women (Smith and Greenblatt 14). Nevada is an Individualistic state because officeholders run the government with marketplace tactics, achieving goals allows corruption to occur in many facets of the state, and its politics are left up to the professionals. A business-like culture is essential to be…

The Electoral College is in place to decide the president of the United States. There are people that agree on it and people that do not. The Electoral College System is an inadequate form of electing the president of the United States, there are better ways to go about choosing a president in a more Democratic way. Having a popular vote, or by deciding by congressional districts would be other options that Congress has thought about, and even states have signed in on being for a National Popular Vote. The Electoral College is a representation of the popular vote, on the other hand it makes it unfair at the same time.…

In my research, I examined three unique states, Vermont, Georgia, and Wyoming. These three states have a high propensity since 1980 to vote for Governors of a different party than the preferred Presidential candidate in those states. Georgia and Wyoming are reliably Republican states at the federal level while Vermont has voted for the Democratic nominee every year since 1988 and has a track record as perhaps the nation’s most liberal state. Nonetheless, all three voters in all three states have expressed a willingness to support governors of both parties. Additionally, Vermont, Georgia, and Wyoming come from three different political cultures according to famed political scientist Daniel Elazar (Elazar, 1972).…
