Boys Latin By R. A. Colson Summary

Boys’ Latin has been an important part of Colson’s dad’s life since grade school and has since become an important part of the family. When asking Colson what school he would like to attend, he unwaveringly states “BL, because that is where my daddy went.” Even though Colson’s statement seems simple it is actually so much more. Colson, since birth, has seen first hand the amazing bond Boys’ Latin students (past and present) have and the overwhelming sense of community Boys’ Latin provides. He is responding to seeing his father always around his BL classmates/friends. Colson calls most of them his uncles. He is also responding to hearing the pride in his father’s voice when stating he attended Boys’ Latin as well as the positive stories he shares. …show more content…
Colson is an analytical and observant child with strong moral sense. He has always had a keen ability to grasp small nuances and apply them. Even at the age of 3, he would, with great precision, correct an adult’s mispronunciation of a dinosaur’s name or point out the smallest of differences in one dinosaur from another. Always a very verbal child, as he learned new words, he would not just use them appropriately, he would apply an inflection or demonstrative expression usually reserved for someone older. Colson is adept at grasping facts or anything logical. Math, letters, concepts, if it is something that can be looked at analytically, Colson excels. He loves to practice math and writing his letters. He constantly wants to read facts about anything; the encyclopedia is one of our best friends! Colson is true to his feelings and how he sees the world. This can lead to him being forthright and using his verbal skills to actively promote his viewpoint. Knowing BL would provide Colson with a nurturing atmosphere where he would have a lot of one on one time with teachers, small classes, many opportunities to create relationships with his peers as well education catered to boys, would be an environment where Colson would
