BASIC TECHNIQUES OF TECHNICAL WRITING
Definition: The need for defining occurs when the report uses technical terms which are not familiar to the reader or when common terms are used in a special way.
RULES FOR DEFINITION
In formulating a formal definition.
1. Try to use simple words. Don’t define an unfamiliar term by using more difficult terminology which would further confuse the reader.

My example:
Not this. Motherboard usually containing the circuitry for the central processing unit, keyboard, monitor and often having slots for accepting additional circuitry.
Good. Motherboard is the main circuit board of a computer and it is the main connection point for all hardware in a computer.

Only singular subjects can be partitioned, plural subjects are classified. Partition breaks down into its components a concrete subject such as a tree (parts: roots, trunks branches, and leaves), or an abstract subject , such as inflation (aspects: causes, effects to the consumers, etc.)

My example:
Pollution is the introduction contaminant into a natural environment that causes instability disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem. There are different kinds of pollution air pollution land and water pollution.
Air pollution- is the accumulation of hazardous substances into the atmosphere that danger human life and other living matter.
Land pollution- is pollution of the Earth’s natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities.
Water pollution -is the introduction of chemical, biological and physical matter into large bodies of water that degrade the quality of life that lives in it and consumes it.
DESCRIPTION OF MECHANISM: is an assembly of movable part fixed with respect to a frame of reference and designed to produce an effect. Mechanisms are combinations of such moving members as links, gears, caws, belts, chains and spring held in a rigid frame.

My example:
Clock is an instrument other than a watch for measuring or indicating time especially a mechanical or electric device having a number dial and moving hands or a digital display. Any various devices
