Background information
Ballet is an artistic movement that is performed by ballerinas wearing specific costumes. It can be telling a story which express feelings and thoughts. It was originally started in the 15th century, ballet was performed in the Italian Renaissance court. Noblemen and women learnt the steps and movements from the dancing masters, then they participate in the performance with the music in celebration events in the court. A century later, an Italian noblewoman, Catherine de Medici, who was the wife of King Henry II of France, and she was a patron of art as she began to introduce ballet of early dance style into the French court (Atlanta Ballet). For example, students who are professional at ballet skills can use the qualifications for their future carriers. When they are succeeded in ballet carrier, they can carry on to teach others. As this process repeat over and over again, a way of “inheriting” ballet and its culture would become successful. In addition, when young children learn ballet, they can be better at understanding and following instructions, they become more comfortable and confident to perform in front of people. Most importantly, they can learn a sense of movement, rhythm, an appreciation of music, balance and controlling their body. These aspects give supports for children’s growth. As they become teenagers, there are more benefits emerging. For example, they develop strong muscles from practice of ballet. They gain self-confidence and pride in their accomplishment of performances. A dance class is a perfect chance to make friends, and being socially engaged helps to increase happiness and reduce stress. The skills they learnt in ballet are useful for other kinds of dancing, performing arts and sports. These benefits of dancing encourage more young generation to learn and participate in ballet, therefore ballet becomes part of the culture in their
