College Essay About Dance

A lot of people have talents or skills. One of one my talents or skills is dance. My favorite types of dance is lyrical and ballet, I have class every Monday, and a recital every year.
I like lyrical and ballet because they push your body to the limits. If you take pointe ballet you have to put all your body weight on your toes. Ballet is a form of self discipline. You have to make sure every part of your body is how it should be while doing a leap, or turn. Also I like lyrical because its like ballet but without the pointe shoes and the up tempo music. Dance enables you to find yourself and lose yourself at the same time! It's a passion. And definitely a sport.
On Mondays, Eden Snowden and I have dance. I take ballet and tap. After that Eden shows up and then we have lyrical and modern. I love ballet! But after that I have tap. Tap is hard for me, because you have to move your feet a specific way. I’ve excelled greatly and can do many things but, I still have trouble with it.

This year is really important because,it’s the Carrington School of Dance’s 50th anniversary! The recital is really fun and entertaining. We come to the school around 12 o’clock ish. (it really just depends on when the recital starts.) After you show up, you go to the room that your group is in and do your hair and makeup. When you’re finished with that you put on your costume and run the dance to make sure you hair or costume will stay in place. If you teacher/ choreographer/ group is ready then, you will run the routine with everyone! My friend Presley and I tell each other “ Practice like you have never won, Perform like you have never lost!” After that you wait until it’s time for you to go on stage. And the adrenaline rush before you go one stage is almost like you could take ten laps around track! It’s honestly amazing to see all your hard work come to life on stage! You get to express yourself without using

From the age of three, I loved ballet more than any of the other styles of dance or other extracurricular activities. I remember being backstage for dance recitals and looking up at the “big girls” with their beautiful pointe shoes. They would stand all the way on the tips of their toes and twirl around so easily. For years I would watch, mesmerized, dreaming of being a real ballerina and wearing my own pointe shoes. As my technique improved, my love of ballet grew.…

Ballet is usually only associated with pink tutus and pointe shoes, but that is most definitely not the case. “Ballet has physical and cognitive benefits that may exceed those of other forms of exercise” (Komaroff). Ballet helps with all kinds of topics, including large and small muscles, stability, coordination, attention, and emotional connectivity. However, it has been proven to help athletes such as tennis players (Bishop), due to the fact that many of the muscles used in ballet are also used in running, aerobics and weight-lifting.…

Ballet also exercises your brain to think and move two parts of your body at once. Because of dance, I feel I have gotten better at multi-tasking. For example, I never used to be able to listen and write/read at the same time whether I am listening to music or listen to my teacher while doing my homework or writing down note. I can focus on both of the sounds and what is on my paper in front of me.…
