It is hard to imagine living without technology. Technology is apart of society 's everyday lives and some may argue that technology is good for teens and some say it is having a negative impact on teens. Ninety three percent of American teenagers have a computer or access to one (Pew Research Center, Mary Madden Pg. 1). Besides computers, technology also includes cell phones and television. Cell phones are a big distraction in classrooms and has caused many schools to ban cellphones in classrooms. Television causes teens to sit for long hours procrastinating and wasting time. It is common for teens to procrastinate spending hours on social media and watching television not realizing the danger that they are creating for themselves. Technology …show more content…
Any kind of addiction is hard to get rid of and for some things you can 't just decide to stop and go cold turkey because you would suffer from withdrawal. Technology addiction is a big problem according to a 2012 study that 66 percent of people would fear being without their phones (Carolyn Gregoire, The Huffington Post). The iphone is by far the most popular phone there is in america. Teens misuse the technology of these devices. Today 's cell phones have more computing power than NASA used in the apollo moon rocket in the 1960s ( Thomas Dalton, Knope Doubleday Publishing Group). The iphone for example because it is the most popular has many affects on the human body. Teens run the risk of damaging their inner ear hair cells when turning the volume up all the way on their iphones which are for turning sounds into signals that go to the brain. This causes hearing loss later in life (Carolyn Gregoire, The Huffington Post). Any kind of digital device has an affect on a teenagers attention span or their ability to continue with a hard task. While teenagers do homework they procrastinate on the internet instead of getting their work done. Teens are spending more time on technology than ever before and the spread of technology is having a big impact on teens abilities to focus.
