Is the Modern Era Ruining Childhoods
Countless opinions exist debating whether or not the modern era is ruining childhoods. Attributes of today's society have led people to pick sides on the matter. Although this controversial topic may never have a definite answer, one thing is for sure, childhood today is the polar opposite to past childhoods.
Society now has technology that benefits children. Some view the idea of technology helping children as absurd, but the fact of the matter is technology has helped improve the lives of children. Thanks to the invention of phones, communication is easier. Now anyone is just a few texts away. Friends can meet up easily, mother's must not worry where her child is, and classmates can easily become friends. Equally beneficial, technology also provides entertainment. Yes, this means no more dull car rides filled with “are we there yet?”, just turn on a DVD player, and hours of entertainment are provided. Not only is it fun, but technology can be used educationally. Thousands of educational learning devices have been produced, ranging from electronic books that can help a child read, to Apps that can teach Spanish. Our world is surrounded by technology. Children

Youth now has the ability to surf the web, post on social media, and view things without any known repercussions. This has led to kids thinking it is okay to say or post anything they want on the web. One comment will not hurt, right? Wrong, endless amounts of cyberbullying have arisen from social media. Even if something is not said to someone's face, does not mean it hurts any less. Due to the online abuse, adolescents are experiencing depression, anxiety, and in the worst cases; suicide. Kids are not thinking before posting, or forwarding something. Unknown to them that once it is out there, it can not be taken back and can easily be traced. All it takes is one picture or comment to ruin a life
