My ability to write essays and research papers in the proper format and structure supports my claim that I am an average writer. Through my experience in AP Language, as well as AP Literature, I was taught how to construct essays utilizing rhetorical techniques, argumentative essays, and research papers. Writing a minimum of two essays per week allowed me to practice the craft of writing and ensure that when i am constructing an essay it is executed properly in structure. The ability to compose these varying types of papers show that I am an average writer. Being able to write and express complete ideas is a major part of writing. I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

In less than one semester, I have met Mr. Lorenzi, my AP Language teacher. I was very nervous joining the class, because I joined the class two weeks later than the other students. By the second day, I finally asked a question and Mr. Lorenzi went on to spend around 30 minutes on an impromptu class debate. He finished off the day saying that he loves when we ask questions, and it was the first time that I had ever felt a connection with a teacher and felt that they truly did like our questions as students. English has always been my least favorite core class, because I felt like it was boring compared to classes in the STEM field.…

I’m happy with my writing skills but I obviously do see a need for improvement. I could improve greatly on procrastination and sentence structures. I certainly will strive to keep focused on the topic and to write as if it comes naturally to me so that I can write papers without worrying about too many things. In the end, I feel I am a hair above average when it comes to writing about topics because I think in a very mature way and it feels like a blessing in this age we live in. I hate to compare myself to others because as people we are all incredibly different from one another…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
