Throughout my high school career I have worked on many essays. I have, over the past four years, improved in a variety of ways. I have not only improved in my English writings, but also in my social studies, science and art writings. Also, I have become more efficient in my grammatical and my structural skills as well. Throughout high school I have improved my writing through class warmups to standardized tests.…
I have never enjoyed writing because I don't think I am good writer. I never want to sit down and write what ever is on my mind. English is one of my toughest subjects because since I’m not good at it, I haven’t taken the time to learn it properly, which makes it hard. In 8th grade, we were assigned a Research Paper. We were suppose to write at least 6-8 pages.…
I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…
I would know say that am a decent writer, but not a terrific one. I know that I have to keep practicing, to improve myself every day. I am now confident in my ability to become an expert writer in both my college and in my job. The expectations for college writing are different from those for high school writing. I believe that my portfolio pieces show that I finished this course as a stronger writer.…
Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…
The Real Writer,” for example, Sarah Allen argues that writing is not a gift you are born with and if someone is determined to better their writing they must write without fear. Others such as Lennie Irvine agree, arguing In “What is Academic Writing?,” that there are many myths about writing that make it seem very structural,…

Overall, students are expected to demonstrate profound knowledge on the field they are writing about.…
In L. Lennie Irvin’s article “What is Academic Writing?” he does a great job of explaining what academic writing is and how it works. His article is about how there are many things that people believe about writing that are not completely true. There are many skills you need to have to be a good writer, such…
My Literacy Autobiography I was in the second grade when I first fell in love with reading. Reading was always my escape from the real world. I was never a fan of writing. Writing papers was my biggest fear when I was in grade school. As I got older, the number of books I read began to lessen.…
In less than one semester, I have met Mr. Lorenzi, my AP Language teacher. I was very nervous joining the class, because I joined the class two weeks later than the other students. By the second day, I finally asked a question and Mr. Lorenzi went on to spend around 30 minutes on an impromptu class debate. He finished off the day saying that he loves when we ask questions, and it was the first time that I had ever felt a connection with a teacher and felt that they truly did like our questions as students. English has always been my least favorite core class, because I felt like it was boring compared to classes in the STEM field.…
I’m happy with my writing skills but I obviously do see a need for improvement. I could improve greatly on procrastination and sentence structures. I certainly will strive to keep focused on the topic and to write as if it comes naturally to me so that I can write papers without worrying about too many things. In the end, I feel I am a hair above average when it comes to writing about topics because I think in a very mature way and it feels like a blessing in this age we live in. I hate to compare myself to others because as people we are all incredibly different from one another…
Many believe that they can’t write, that writing is stupid, and it won’t be used in the “real world”. They can’t be any further from the truth. Writing is a 21st century skill that is essential to being successful in whatever post-secondary atmosphere students find themselves in. This study helped provide many students with confidence about their ability to write. The impact we have on students’ confidence will have a ripple effect on to another area where they feel less confident.…
To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
