In 2013 the Public of Health Agency of Canada, announced that an estimated 3 million Canadians (11.6%) aged 18 years or older reported that they had a mood and/or anxiety disorder. Veeva, a Canadian natural health product company, has set out to transform the way we consider, treat, and exist with these common disorders. One way Veeva attempts to change the consumer’s idea of anxiety disorders is through an advertisement campaign, which illustrates a new unique perspective. In this advertisement they choose to design a colorful scene surrounding the beautifully written word “Anxiety”. Through the advertisement’s serene design featuring elements of muted colors and simple details, it effectively persuades the audience, who desires an anxiety …show more content…
The only argument that this advertisement utilizes is pathos. The designers acknowledge that victims who suffer from anxiety desire a calm and worry free life. They successfully utilize colors and font which initially seem irrelevant to target the desires of the audience. Charlotte Jirousek of Cornwell University, suggests that the curves of a line, as seen in the font, are associated with comfort, safety, familiarity, and relaxation. The muted pastel colors carefully chosen for this advertisement are also considered relaxing, soothing, and even equated to sanity. Therefore, these minor details have an incredible amount of complexity behind each aspect. Proving how the careful and precise the designers truly were with each element of this advertisement to produce relaxation, therefore, relating those feelings to this treatment. The mission of the Veeva advertisement states, that it can “help make the challenges of life less intimidating by controlling your anxiety naturally and without any side effects. Before you know it, you’ll be seeing the world in a whole new – and much brighter – light.”. The advertisement accomplishes the company’s mission by encompassing calm tones and luminous design that displays anxiety in a new light of attaining a peace filled life. Therefore, this advertisement is successful through the delivery of a new hopeful perspective of anxiety by utilizing an incorporation of pathos and its many design
