The Coca-Cola Company is the largest operating beverage company in the world. This iconic brand is the largest manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups. The Coca-Cola Company operates in over two hundred countries throughout the world. They sell to more than four hundred different brands that eventually produce over three thousand different products. Surprisingly, Coca-Cola earns almost 75% of revenue from international sales, which are not always a good thing. International sales can effect overall sales due to currency fluctuations because not every currency is equal to one United States dollar. It is clear that the soft drink industry stock performance has fluctuated and declined for the past several years. One of the main reasons is explained in this article. It is clear that consumers do not have the same feelings about soft drinks now in comparison to how they felt twenty years ago. It is no surprise that soft drinks are unhealthy. With the rising obesity epidemic the United States is experiencing, consumers are no longer demanding the calorie and sugar filled soft drinks they were once accustom to. Instead, they are changing their shopping lists and are now purchasing beverages that are healthier and more rational than the traditional soft drink. Coffee, tea, energy drinks, flavored water, and sparkling water are replacing the traditional soft drinks that were once stocked in the majority of Americans refrigerators. It is important that major companies in the soft drink industry such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi Co, and Dr Pepper Snapple take notice to these trends and develop new products to meet customers needs.
