Coca-Cola is one of the largest and most well known brands across the entire world. They’ve been around for 130 years, and have one of the most popular drinks across the globe. The amount of power and influence they possess is limitless. They have all the money and resources to reach out to billions of people and make a permanent change globally. Marketing has always been a high priority for every large corporation, as for Coca-Cola, they take a strong initiative to make sure they get their message across both creatively and clearly. Many big corporations in the United States share the same goal for their brand. Every corporation wants to be well known and increase sales, but to do so, they need to have the ability to reach out to as much of …show more content…
Everybody is viewed differently, some being more appealing than others. Although the true reason behind Greene’s nickname “Mean Joe” isn’t clear, his intimidation on the field combined with being the anchor to one of the NFL’s all time best defense solidifies his nickname. The commercial aired almost at the end of his historic career, where he was one of the most well known NFL stars of all time. Just his image in the commercial was a huge boost for Coca-Cola. The commercial has been aired across many other countries, including those where football wasn’t even that popular. Part of the reason it got aired all over was that it was able to give viewers the outlook on a ‘Gentle Giant.’ With a nickname of “mean” in his name, his image didn’t look too appealing to everybody, especially children. The commercial was able to bring Greene into the spotlight and turn him into a more friendly guy. The commercial has been parodied numerous times, and has been used as a cornerstone to advertisements in the present day. It was able to portray and reflect on an individual on such a powerful way, and forever changed his image. This was a marketer’s dream when they make a commercial. Not only did it give Coca-Cola the attention they were seeking, it was able to completely change Greene’s career. In interviews, Greene stated that after the commercial aired, kids were no longer afraid to approach him, and that many people actually gave him a bottle of Coke upon meeting him. This commercial is a prime example of how one event or action can completely change one’s outlook on an image or another
