Alex K. Rich and Gerson Moreno-Riano are the authors of the article War on Terror. Gerson Moreno-Riano earned a doctorate in Philosophy and a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University of Cincinnati (Rich, 2016, p.7). The purpose of this article is to explain the overview and understanding on how the war on terrorism is fought. Although the authors mention several effect that war has throughout the world, the authors argue that the war on terror causes the largest impact because it includes military operations. In paragraph one, the author establishes a setting by providing significant terrorist groups, locations and time. When the author mentions the international terrorist organizations “such as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah” (Rich, 2016, p. 1), it sparks fear to stress the importance of these terrorist groups. The location of the setting is Iraq and Afghanistan, but the author wants to trigger a response from the reader to convey how devastating and dangerous these areas are for U.S. troops. Lastly, the author intends to express the seemingly endless amount of time that is going to war and the conflict in the war on terror is going on for more than thirteen years. The author uses constant dates to give himself credibility and that it is matching the time spent on the war on terror. For instance, the authors mentions terrorist attacks from the “1991 Gulf War” (Rich, 2016, p. 3) to the 2014 “attacks by ISIS” (Rich, 2016, p. 6). The author is trying to…
