I agree with Krakauer that Christopher McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with people easily, but he did seem some-what incompetent, even though he managed to survive for over one hundred days in the wild. McCandless was the type of person that anyone could relate to. The author, Jon Krakauer describes the final years of the boy. Krakauer reveals the untold truth about McCandless. Several decisions, conversations, logical thinking, and thrill of excitement prove the sincere down to earth person people know as Christopher McCandless.…

Christopher McCandless was born on February 12, 1968 in California. He ended up studying at Emory University, and after graduating gave the $24,000 in his bank account to charity before disappearing from his family. McCandless then travelled around the country by means such as hitchhiking, and identified himself as Alex Supertramp. Alex arrived in Fairbanks Alaska in 1992, with the intent of living off the land, and his dead body was found a few months later about 19 days after McCandless’ death. Many who hear of McCandless’ story claim he died a meaningless death, and was foolish for it.…
Little Rock, Arkansas is an area in the U.S. that is significantly located in the “deep south”. At the time of the riots and protests in 1957, America was seeing a change in its citizens perspectives and their distaste in the “established” laws of society and the constitution. This was the initial start to the racial protests and demonstrations that led to civil disobedience amongst African Americans. Unfortunately, the amount of racial tensions in, 1957, swayed the public’s opinion and evidently worsened the protests. Luckily, President Dwight D. Eisenhower saw this as an opportunity to appease both sides of the events.…
“Those who are not for us are against us,” was a mantra often used by Andrew Jackson. As a general and a president, Andrew Jackson frequently engaged in violent interactions. Jackson indulged in stepping over boundaries when he did not have the authority to do so. Before Jackson became president, he showed his competence in New Orleans. General Jackson enforced martial law, and ruled out writ of habeas corpus.…
In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck George Milton kills his best friend Lennie Small. Because Lennie did bad things which he would of been killed for by other characters, but George decided to shoot Lennie in the head when he was not looking so he did not suffer. George also knew that if he did not do it himself Curley would have beaten and killed Lennie for killing his wife in much harsher ways than if George killed him. Lennie did not deserve to die because he ultimately had not intention of hurting and killing those he did kill.…
Argument Analysis Howard Moody in his article “Sacred Right or Civil Right” seeks to explore the fitness of same-sex marriage in the face of the law and religion. The author’s purpose is to make people have an in depth understanding of the issues surrounding marriage to enable them comprehend the state and the civil dimension. The article’s thesis statement is to portray that the debate on gay marriage is more about the state-church relationship and less of the legality of an intimate relationship between the same sex couples. Howard has a vast experience in religious matters making him be in a good position to explain the issue of gay marriage. The author seeks to show the church’s inability to handle the issue of gay marriage, show that…

The titles of the first three chapters are “Into the Primitive”, “The Law of the Club and Fang”, and “The Dominant Primordial Beast.” These titles all tie into each other through the development of Buck. In the chapter “Into the Primitive”, Buck is in the primary stages of growing to adapt to the harsh environment of the Yukon. When Buck got to the Yukon, he was not expecting a big difference between Santa Clara (his hometown) and the Yukon, but he was wrong. He had to adapt to the small amounts of food he got, how fast he has to eat his food, the cold weather, and the “savage” humans and dogs.…
That is true. That is what makes the sacrifice of one’s life so special. It is an ultimate act of selflessness. However, not anything is worth dying for. Because life is such a precious gift, it should only be given up when appropriate.…
Imagine associating with a society where family, neighbors, and friends are murdered plainly because of the pigment that their skin has. What was the transgression? They were alive. That is what life was like for many people whom existed in the southern region for a tremendous amount of America’s history; the racism in the south only grew when a group of white supremacist began to show extreme racism towards African Americans and Jews. They called themselves the Ku Klux Klan otherwise known as the KKK.…
A central conflict in human society is a divide between obedience and autonomy. People are by nature, herd animals, with a need for the security of knowing their place in the world. In Erich Fromm’s essay, “Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem,” states that by being obedient, we gain a measure of the power that we worship, be it the Church or the State or a charismatic leader, and we become strong. We become righteous. It frees us of thought and of the accusation of wrong-doing (Fromm 4).…
During the 2014 AFC Championship game, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were involved in an allegation in which the team tampered footballs, making them deflated so it was easier to throw the football for the quarterback. The Indianapolis Colts were suspicious of this act, as their quarterback Andrew Luck tried to throw the ball as normal but failed to do so. This controversy, known as Deflategate, sparked tension between the NFL Association, teams, and players, wanting punishment for the current Super Bowl champions. Fans of the Patriots saw it different than others, thinking that the NFL Association is singling out the Patriots, wanting other teams to be on the top of the standings for football.…
