Advantages Of Remote Employees

The business world is continually expanding. This is creating more job opportunities and many employers are giving their employees the chance to work from home, or become remote employees. Being a remote employee has its advantages, such as more freedom for the employee and less office space is needed for the employer. There is a disadvantage that will be discussed further in this paper. A lack of face-to-face contact is common for remote employees but this can often lead to their communications, such as emails and instant messages, not being made a priority and being forgot about at times compared to those in the office. In essence, does being a remote employee lead to communication problems between management and co-workers?
Background Information about Remote Employment As technology becomes more complex, yet user-friendly, companies are looking for ways to take advantage of it. One of the things they have done is allow some employees to work from home or in a satellite office. According to a survey performed by Global Workplace Analytics there are approximately 3.7 million employees (2.5% of the workforce) that work from home at least part of the time (Global Workplace Analytics, 2016). Staying connected and using a variety of communication methods will ultimately make a remote employee successful. The most effective method is management and employees coming together and deciding on a set plan regarding communication and make changes throughout the process as needed. Remote employees will continue to become more popular and as technology becomes more advanced, the lines of communication will continue to evolve.
