Addressing Bullying in Schools “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”? Well, it isn’t true. Have you ever been bullied in school? Has it kept you from going to school? Bullying is a huge issue in schools that we need to address to make it stop. There are several ways you can be bullied, which are spreading rumors, yelling obscenities or other derogatory terms based on individual’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. So how do schools address this issue, to keep it from happening?
According to Bullying Statistics, “77 percent of all students being bullied verbally in some way or another including mental bullying or even verbal abuse. Out of the 77 percent of those bullied, 14 percent have a severe or bad reaction to the abuse, according to recent school bullying statistics.” The bad reaction to the abuse that kids experience is poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety about going to school and suicidal thoughts as a result of being bullied by their peers. The worst part is that they have to go to class and see for at least 32.5 hours a week. Another thing is bullying statistics state is “One in five students admitted they are responsible for bullying their peers. And almost half of all students fear harassment or bullying in the bathroom at school. As a result of this fear and anxiety of being bullied, many students will make excuses or find ways around going to school.” This issue needs to be controlled. It’s very sad that 77…
