Amongst the most important people in society, included are the nurses. Through the provision of healthcare, nurses promote the physical, mental, and psychological well-being of people. It is better known as holistic care. Holistic care nursing is taking care of an individual as a whole. With the aim of improving the health care system, The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends that nurses achieve higher levels of education regarding their practice. In today’s health care system, the general population is living longer and getting sicker; more nurses will be needed to care for and educate patients. With constant advancements and developments in science and technology, enhanced knowledge and skills are vital to the contribution of safe nursing practice. Achieving higher education is critical to meet the demands of the changing healthcare system. Providing patient safety is the primary goal of the nursing practice. Emphasis on ethics, evidence-based practices, nursing leadership, and community health nursing encompass the baccalaureate nursing education. Nurses who have bachelor degrees are better prepared to take the multifaceted roles in the nursing field. Bachelor- prepared nurses, have strengthened competencies in communication, leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking skills that all contribute to being better advocators for patients, as well as to the profession. It was evident from studies that institutions with higher proportions of BSN- prepared nurses positively influenced the healthcare delivery. Several organizations and academic institutions collaboratively developed strategies to address the increasing demands of BSN-prepared nurses. In 2012, an initiative called the Academic Progression in Nursing (APIN), was established to analyze and evaluate nursing employment and nursing education (Gerardi et al., 2018). The program aimed at promoting a more highly educated nursing workforce. The Academic Progression in Nursing concluded a four-year project that identified barriers and developed recommendations for fostering a better-educated nursing workforce. Funds were granted to nine selected states to develop creative educational pathways accessible for nursing students. All nine states including- California, Hawaii, Massachusets, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington- received two-year funding to participate in the project. APIN worked on two objectives: supporting academic pathways toward the baccalaureate degree, such as partnerships between universities and community colleges for seamless transitions from ADN to BSN; and creating employment opportunities for experienced nursing students by establishing connections between academic and healthcare
