Tabitha, congratulations on your plans to move up the nursing clinical ladder. Employers are being encouraged to hire more Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates, and to move up the ladder you must have your BSN. The Institute of Medicine released their report “The Future of Nursing” in October 2010. In the report, it was recommended that the percentage of BSN nurses practicing should be increased to about eighty percent by 2020. With studies showing the BSN graduates are better in their critical thinking skills, leadership, and their versatility in being able to work in various areas in the nursing field, more hospitals are recognizing the benefits of having the BSN nurse and so more will be hired.
