Social psychology refers to the scientific study of how we think, influence, and how they relate to one another (Meyers, 2011). In my experience, I have come into contact with the effects of optimists versus pessimists, self-handicapping, and the fundamental attribution error. These social phenomenons have influenced my high school career as well as my life personally.

Optimists versus pessimists
Optimists are the people who are more likely to act from good events while bad ones have little to no effect on their mood (Meyers, 2011). My best friend, Carmella, is a optimist. She is always looking on the bright side of things as well as encourages others to do so. She is a ball of good energy that she shares with everyone around her.
Pessimists are much more negative, and because of this suffer from depression. They will blame dispositional attributions for bad events such as, getting lost (Meyers, 2011). For example, if a pessimist were to get lost they would blame not only themselves for being dumb enough to misread the directions, but also the map for being confusing.
I am a pessimist, and my best friend is an optimist. I suffer from depression, and Carmella has always been my personal cheerleader in my efforts to get better mentally. For instance, she drove me to my first therapy session and was encouraging the whole drive. I, on the other hand, was dreading the appointment and hoped it would be over as soon as possible.
