Listening is one of the most important characteristics of effective communication. A successful listener does not just understand the words but also understand how the speaker feels about (Robinson and Segal 2015). An effective listening can make the speaker feel heard and understand, in which it could also help to build a strong and deep connection between project team and leaders. It could also create an environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable to express their ideas or feelings to solve problems. In addition, it could also help to save plenty of time by helping both leaders and teams to clarify problems as well as avoid conflicts and misunderstandings (Robinson and Segal 2015).

As today, construction projects have become more complex in nature and the involvement of multidisciplinary in a construction projects may leads to conflicts due to poor communication skills among the parties (Whitefield 1994). In a research by Karthleen (2003) highlighted that the major cause of conflicts are due to lack of time, money, labour and materials. Reeves (2012) has stated that being able to listen or take instruction are extremely critical to the construction workers. In fact, project leaders having good listening skills would allow the construction workers to receive the correct path for them to complete their assigned tasks. In order to listen well, PMs should perform these actions, Figure 3 4 - Actions to improve listening skills It believes that the above actions are the requirements for PMs to improve their listening skills. For instance, they should first listen, clarify the questions, interpret it then only respond to the answers. Besides, reading and writing skills are under communication skills as well.
