Anticipatory Active Listening

Decent Essays
Active listening is an undeveloped skill that can affect your abilities to be a great supervisor and how others respond to you in the work place. In order to become a great supervisor one must understand others and learn from them. Active listening is often prevented by our anticipatory listening, judging, jumping to conclusions, and giving our partial attention to others before understanding what we are being told. Such habits can be defeated if we wait to have a conversation with others when we can completely devote our attention to them. Setting a goal for the conversation and anticipating reactions can help to have a good discussion. As a supervisor it is also important to offer feedback during discussions and clarify any misunderstandings.
