After meeting with the principal, we discussed our data and brainstormed somethings we thought could be contributing factors to our low mClass scores in Kindergarten. A common trend we found when looking at individual student data reports, classroom data on the students, and discipline data was that students were having trouble communicating orally, being able to express their thoughts, and an increase in behavior when faced with situations that caused for emotional response. From conversation, data, and identifying trends, the following SIT Goal was created: By the end of the 2018 school year, student’s reading scores will increase 10% in Kindergarten through 2nd grade by addressing students’ social emotional needs as measured through on-going …show more content…
Even though the goal on focused on 10-12 students, all kindergarten parents will be invited to attend the profession development. All parents need to be aware of what social emotional learning is and how it affects their child’s learning. Some children may not struggle with communication at school but may struggle at home, and this professional development would be a tool to provide the parents to help wherever needed. Professional development will be offered during the day and in the evening, so that all parents can have the opportunity to attend. This will accommodate the parents no matter if he/she works in the morning or evening. In the past, we have only offered professional development for parents during evening hours, so hopefully by offering these various times, we will have more parental involvement. Administrators and teachers will work diligently to encourage the parents of the students we are targeting to attend. The parents will not be singled out, but encouraged in a very positive way to attend the training to help his/her child. Therefore, it is pivotal for the school as a whole to build positive relationships with students and
