TK/GS displays what in the IRS data display

Left window displays track

Right window displays ground speed

PPOS on the IRS data display does what?

Left window displays present latitude

Right window displays present longitude

HDG/STS on the IRS display does what?

Left window displays true HDG

ALIGN light in steady white means what?

IRS is operating in the align mode, the initial ATT (attitude) mode or the shutdown cycle (30 seconds)

ALIGN light flashing white means what?

Alignment cannot be completed due to no present position entry position OR difference between previous or entered positions

ON DC light illuminates, what does that mean?

Related IRS is operating on the switched hot battery bus

On the ground if the ON DC light is illuminated what else happens?

Ground call horn will sound

If DC FAIL light illuminates what does that mean?

IRS backup DC power has failed (switched hot battery bus)

BOTH ON L or R IRS switches does what?

The IRS transfer switch is used when an IRS Fails. It is used to transfer all associated systems to the functioning IRS

VHF NAV switches do what?

There are 2 VHF navigation receivers. If one fails you select the other to display on both EFIS. Note the disabled side course selector will not function.

How many FMC's are there?

2

How many GPS receivers are there and when will the GPS light illuminate with a MC?

2, when both channels fail.

On recall with a single GPS failure

What is the primary aid in updating FMC position?

GPS

What does the Inertial system provide?

Airplane position

Ground speed

Attitude data

Does an ADIRU form part of the Inertial system?

Yes, the ADIRU provides the following data to the PFD's/ND'sand also FMC;

FMC

Inertial Position

Track

PFD/ND

Attitude

Altitude

Airspeed

How long does it take the IRS's to align?

Depending on latitude 5-17 minutes

How do you align the IRS's?

Move switch from OFF to NAV

When will the VERIFY POSITION scratchpad message be displayed?

When entered position is not within 4nm of origin airport

Can a fast alignment be completed using the IRS?

Yes, select ALIGN and then enter PPOS. Then move switch to NAV

How can alignment be lost? (2)

Switch moved out of the NAV position or aircraft loses both AC and DC power.

What happens if alignment is lost in flight?

You can only revert to ATT mode. ATT mode needs 30 seconds of straight and level flight to complete the releveling. It will also provide heading information if entered into the CDU

Does the IRS stay powered after being turned off?

Yes, approximately 30 seconds, the ALIGN light will illuminate until unit is complete shut down

When would you use the IRS transfer switch?

If an IRS fails, then you would transfer to the operable IRS

Data from the following sources is sent to the ADM to then be sent to the ADIRU

Pitot probes

TAT sensor

Static ports

Alpha Vanes

How are the IRS's powered?

AC or DC power. Captain IRS powered from AC Standby bus and FO IRS from Right Transfer Bus.

How long is back-up DC power supplied to the right IRS?

5 mins, after that the right IRS is automatically terminated if AC power is not restored (right AC transfer bus)

If the airplane loses all AC power how do the IRS(s) stay powered?

Left IRS through the AC standby bus using battery power (or switched hot battery bus if the AC Standby fails) and the right IRS on the switched hot battery bus for 5 mins only unless AC power is restored

If both the IRS units go into ATT mode in flight what will be supplied by the IRS?

Attitude information only plus HDG information if it is updated into the CDU, location reference lost

Moving the switch to ALIGN does what for a quick alignment?

Updates alignment and zeros ground speed error

The ON DC light is illuminated on the left IRS, what power source is powering the left IRS?

Switched hot battery bus

Will VNAV and LNAV be available with a dual FMC failure?

No
