Governor Cuomo signed the bill to pass this as the law for those in critical conditions. The Bill allowed emergency access to qualified individuals to receive care with medical marijuana and gives them protection from the authorities (Nyt, 2015). To get the bill approved many individuals rallied outside the Governor’s office. Many parents begged the Governor to past the bill to help their sick children with life threatening seizures. Even after the bill was passed still many individuals could not use the drug and many died trying to fight to have access. Individuals believe that many are suffering and waiting for their marijuana drug to help with their ill conditions. Richard N. Gottfried chair of Health Committee Assembly said that many individuals are waiting to get access to medical marijuana to help serious conditions and not having access can be dangerous for their health (Alliance, 2015). He was discussing the matter with Governor Cuomo for months to help him make the decision of allowing this bill to get accepted. He used the example of medical marijuana helping so many children with epilepsy in other states. The main reason why this bill was passed in New York State was because of the increasing demand of medical marijuana for children suffering from epileptic seizures. I’m glad Governor Cuomo signed the bill and individuals such as Richard N. Gottfried were able to convince the Governor to accept the bill and allow this to be used to save lives of those suffering from seizures. But overall I also believe more research needs to take place for other illnesses to see if it actually does help and is better compare to other pain reducing agents. One of my biggest concerns is individuals misusing the drug and using a child’s illness to their own advantage. It’s difficult to tell anyone intention but the overall benefits for those suffering is
