Why Do Leaders Have Different Visions Than Their Followers

In these last days of class, I have learned the importance of leadership, how to do it well and how to avoid its dark aspects. However, chapter 16 covered the most important aspect of leadership management and that is managing conflict. Conflict occurs when opposing parties have interests or goals that appear to be incompatible. So, when leaders have different visions than their followers, conflict can happen. One problem would be that leaders often struggle with giving a compelling description of how they add value to the general vision. This creates problems when they are trying to get their team to become excited about the goal of the company. To combat this, the leader's vision should have a persuasive effect on followers and should address the holes in the big picture. To do this, the vision should be short, concise and should be able to answer the main questions the followers have. Moreover, leaders who act inconsistently with their …show more content…
This is when we are entirely giving in to someone else's concerns without making any effort to achieve one's own ends. This is a tactic of appeasement and can backfire because it can lead us to lose entirely. Another method would be sharing. In this approach, we see a compromise between domination and appeasement. Consequently, both parties give up something, yet both parties get something. It is a good method as long as we know what we are okay with losing. Most importantly, we have collaboration, and this is when we make an effort to fully satisfy both parties. This is a problem-solving approach that requires the integration of each party's concerns. By far, this is the best method in solving conflict. At last, we have avoidance. This happens when we are indifferent to the concerns of both parties. It is the least effective method, because ignoring the problem does not always make it go away. However, an effective leaser will use all the methods above to solve conflict at the work
