World War II started in September, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. The attack was not provoked by Poland in any way. This upset Britain and France; which ultimately led them to declare war on Germany. Both Japan and Italy joined Germany and created the axis powers. These three countries attacked other countries (unprovoked) just for the sake of acquiring more land and gaining power. Around 1942, it seemed that Japan and Germany were invincible. However, things soon changed. There was another group of countries that didn’t like what Japan, Italy and Germany were doing and they joined forces and were referred to as the allied powers. The allied powers were led by Britain and included the United States of America (U.S.A), the United Soviet Socialists Republic (U.S.S.R.) and Britain. The United States remained neutral during the war until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. That was when the U.S.A. decided it would enter the war. …show more content…
