Many of them lost their jobs to go serve. To find a job was difficult because many existing jobs had disappeared and most were already taken. Many veterans also dealt with PTSD, which only made home life harder on them and their families. Alcoholism was a common trait in veterans after WWII because of these issues. Other veterans, on the other hand, took advantage of the GI Bill and went back to school.
To begin Germany made an alliance with Italy and Austria-Hungary. Although, Italy made a secret alliance with France saying they weren't actually going to help Germany. When Ferdinand, of Austria, was assassinated Austria declared war on Serbia (where he was assassinated). Since Russia was allied with Serbia they sent russian troops to help them. In response Germany declared war on Russia for going against their ally and France. Since France, Britain, and Russia were allies, Britain also declared war on Germany.
