Why Did I Choose Pima Community College

Improved Essays
My senior year of high school, I had the possibility to choose between Pima Community College and The University of Arizona. You now know where I choose to go but at the time I having a very hard time choosing and I believe that was because I had no idea what I wanted to do in life. However, I based my decision just on that. I convinced myself that if I went to The UofA I would be exposed to a lot more things and opportunity’s that would open my eyes to see what exactly I wanted to do. I will now be a sophomore and I still have no clue on the degree path I want to follow. I feel that to make that decision in choosing a major, I need exposure to different career paths and job options because im interested in so many things, but this is because im not completely familiar with all these major options. Which the textbook perfectly outlines “entering students have only a vague idea of what a major entails” (?????). So entering undecided was the option for me. Having too many interest is exactly why I am still undecided and I personally believe that my situation might be more difficult compared to someone who knows what they don’t like. Just because it would be easier to narrow their options down. I believe that im intimated to fully commit to one particular choice because it sets the tone for the rest of my life. While analyzing the steps in choosing a major, I believe that I've explored majors a little more than my actual self (page. 1). Making this a little more complicated because I can’t exactly find what makes me happy and what I see myself doing after graduation. Another reason why I hold back on choosing a major that I might be interested in, is because I’m intimidated by the coursework and how well I would do which I learned in activity 1.1: your current major status. Along with, that I have difficulties in really pinpointing what I love and don’t love. Which could also be because the I lack exploration in the different majors this university has to offer. At times I feel completely lost, but I know I want to be involved with helping people however that might be, but overall in general I cannot find my nitch. my initial thought was going into the public health route, until I realized the courses I would be taking. However, im still considering a major I can reach out to people with, especially those who need it and provide resources for them when their stuck. I believe that many factors influence my decision when it comes to choosing my major like; family, income, friends, news and many others. I realize that these outside influences make it harder for me to come to a decision or at least narrow down my choices. Which …show more content…
However, I am a strong believer that you need some type of plan to follow so you do not lose focus of your main goal. And know exactly where you are right now to where you need to be in the short future. This effects my thoughts on the major exploration process because I obligated to have some type of plan before I do choose the major I desire to follow. Overall, I feel like I've been focusing on the wrong things from the start. This has caused me to lose some time and lose focus on my overall goal which is why I am having such a hard time choosing a

Advice Dated as College Itself Let’s retire the exhausted mantra, “You need to go to college to be successful.” For many incoming freshman, four years of meticulous studying in high school have fallen short in helping to pick a major. While the world opens its arms to hard working high school graduates, many students have given little thought to a career path, while some are simply burnt out by school. Liz Freedman is the author of “The Developmental Disconnect in Choosing a Major”, an online article published on Penn State’s academic advisory journal “The Mentor.” In her article, Freedman cites a number of statistics such as the 20%-50% of students entering college as “undecided”, and the 75% of students who change their major at least once.…

I want to find my right major and have successful college years and struggle the least possible. Therefore, I want to find the solution through a set of steps, in where I identify the problem (declaring a major), find alternatives to it, view the positive and negatives of the alternatives. And hopefully reach a solution. Firstly, I know that I am limited to the amount of time I have to declare a major and I know that I am not just limited to changing my major one time that I have the option to change my mind a few times.…

Many students have unique incentives for choosing their major while others are rather straight forward. I believe mine is a combination of the two. Ever since I was young, I demonstrated an interest in the dental field. Teeth were always the very first thing I noticed about a person, including myself. When my adult teeth started to come in, there was so much overcrowding that my canine teeth were growing in my upper gums.…

As any other, typical high school student, I was confused in which career I wanted to go into. I looked for clarity by discussing with guidance counsellors, friends and parents. Originally, my mom tried to encourage me in becoming a French teacher (to use my abilities to speak fluent French to my advantage) but I never really saw myself doing that for the rest of my life. Sadly, nobody really seemed to have any helpful advice other than "what are your interests?" Honestly, I was not really sure.…
