Every year, thousands of students throughout the world spent their last year of high school applying for college to decide what will be the right choice in furthering their education. While a wide variety of students decide to proceed straight into college others would prefer to have a gap year. A gap year is when students take a year off away from the school. Students, who graduate from high school, should take a year off before starting a new chapter in life, therefore the gap year can allow the student to take a break from school and add excessive time to decide what career to excel in. Not all students can deal with intense work that requires a copious amount of time and energy throughout the year. Having a gap year allows students to also do other activities without being worried about taking a test or completing a book report the next day. Taking a year off is also a perfect opportunity to explore the world and meet new friends, especially if it involves with a career that the student is interested in. Internships will be provided for a wide variety of career positions and becoming an intern would help understand what really goes on when performing the job. For people who disagree, a person would mention that some students might abuse that year of opportunity and use the gap year as a vacation. Being introduced to a distinct setting and adjusting to a different set of rules can be overwhelming. During the gap year, students will realize how important a college degree is, and how it can provoke students to work even harder. In the gap year, students can mentally be ready and well aware with adapting to the lifestyle of college. For example, a student can examine the courses requirements in the degree’s curriculum and begin to study it. Another example would be if a student creates a time chart during the gap year. Developing a time chart will help improve time management skills when scheduling for classes and other activities. Once a student has taken a year off, the clarity provided will allow the student to be more focused as they matriculate back into the world of higher education. The courses would not appear as difficult as a student who went to college after graduating high school. They will feel more confident and willing to make an impact on their lifestyles. Companies and businesses that are in search for employees will be more likely to hire them because of their maturity, experience, and the way they present themselves. Students usually change their major more than once when feeling indecisive.
