When Bad Things Happen to Good People

When someone does something good, great, amazing; however it is said, a reward is expected. That’s just the way the human brain has been trained in many cultures. People think just that with every good deed that is done. Movies have taught us that the “bad guy” never wins and that a hero will always triumph in the end. Not so much in the real world. Religious views, daily decisions, and just pure coincidence, if you will, all influence the outcome of a good deed. But, when answering one of the world’s most difficult questions: Why do bad things happen to good people, maybe we should first ask ourselves: Is the idea of a “good person” even remotely plausible to exist?

This applies in the vice versa situation where good things happen to bad people. They just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It’s mostly out of anyone’s control and some could even call it fate. As if you were destined to be there and it was a random unfortunate event that occurred. This has happened to me numerous times. However you view it, some things just happen spur of the moment and others you were just there at the wrong time. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can put a person at risk of blame and not being able to explain. Looking at the religious side of it, it’s just God’s way. It was His decisions to put you there. He wanted it to happen.
If life has taught me anything, it’s that you should never expect for things to get any better. You should never just hope for something good to happen without any personal effort on your part. You should never say it can’t get worse. When bad things happen to good people, a poor excuse could be that that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. But, when honestly thinking about it, many things influence any outcome. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do good things happen to bad people? It’s a vicious cycle that nobody can answer. People live by all sorts of things. I, personally, believe in constantly thinking about the future, the Golden Rule, and making sure that I’ll be able to sleep at night.
