What Is Edward A Hero

Decent Essays
Edward or Ed how most people know him is the titular protagonist of the series. Different from what we were used to in a shonen anime hero, he wasn't the lovable dim-witted guy who is always ready to help everyone around him, oh no. Ed is extremely ambitious, veeery smart and veeery arrogant, not really moved by a great cause like saving the world or becoming the biggest and baddest alchemist around. No he has a much simpler goal, to get back what he and his brother Al lost as kids, a normal life.

After reading about both the heroic Beowulf and what Emerson’s ideas of what a hero is, I truly believe that Emerson would consider Beowulf to be a hero to a certain extent. This is because Beowulf has qualities that Emerson considers heroic: such as having a warlike attitude towards evil, being confident (sometimes too confident), not worrying about the difficulty or safety of his task, and being unaffected in his pursuit of vanishing evil. He says he will defeat Grendel because Grendel is killing off innocent civilians who Beowulf wants to protect. This is one of the most important qualities Emerson describes in a Hero. His confidence is shown by him wanting to defeat the monster no matter how much willpower it takes.…
