Is Beowulf a hero or not? This is the big question that many want to answer. Although he didn't do all the heroic thing heroes would traditionally do doesn't mean he isn't a hero. This was my first time hearing the story and I wouldn't at first have called him a hero he just seemed like he was conceded. I guess people in the Anglo Saxons it was considered formal boasting therefore it was normal for people to be boasting about themselves and what they can do. In his bragging he never really mentioned the thanes that were with him fighting. To me he just seemed like some one that only cared about how good he was.

Although Beowulf may have seemed conceded that was considered normal he was an epic hero. After all he did defeat the bad guy in the story he came to save the people who needed a hero. He was fighting for the people and for the right reason too. He heard a call for him to fight and he came and answered it. Beowulf was very brave in fighting against something that had killed many other people and he was doing it without any weapons.

At the end of the fight he was a hero he won the challenge and the point of there being a hero is that hero's generally win the battle and the bad guy loses. This is exactly what he was able to do. His strength that he used to win the fight was beyond regular human capabilities not to mention without a weapon in hand his strength is almost

The stories of Beowulf and Grendel are very similar in many aspects. There is only one major difference. In Beowulf, we do not know what Grendel is thinking, like we do in Grendel. Of the many heroes in the Anglo-Saxon and medieval literature, Beowulf is a prime example of a hero. In the Beowulf poem written by the Beowulf poet, and in Robert Zemeckis’ film, Beowulf. Beowulf selflessly sacrifices his own life in the hopes of saving the lives of the Danes, who belonged to a whole different clan than his own. Beowulf is willing to give his own life for the betterment of another society, and with this he chivalrously saves many people. Even though Beowulf is portrayed as an ideal hero in the poem, and in the movie the audience is introduced to his flaws, they are both similar in their theme of heroism.…

He is also a very prideful and boastful man, but is deemed the “hero of heroes” for his imperturbable attitude and will to fight for his beliefs. These traits, combined with the seemingly superhuman capabilities Beowulf has and his vast battle knowledge, draw Beowulf as more of a superhero than anything else. Although, Beowulf does lack sentimental values, such as empathy, compassion, understanding, and so on. He does not consider, or at least understand, any possible emotions conveyed by Grendel and why he is attacking.…
