What does it mean to fake it till you become it, and is it good advice?
You’ll never get a second chance to make a first impression” Therefore, ”Fake it till you make it” makes perfect sense. The saying “Fake it till you make it” has been used for over a hundred years, its originator William James believed that “physiology and activity influence our mood”. Productive flourishing (2014) Amy Cuddy agrees in influencing our mood by using “power posing” as a way to achieve “faking it till you become it” Ted.com (2012). Do these actions really work, and is it the best advice to follow? I think that “faking it till you become it” is good advice, to me it means persistence is the key, and persistence can bring you through many stressful events if you trust in the process.
The Fake till you make it, or become it practice, is used by large corporations every year. During my time as a sales and service representative for Comcast cable, we often had week long trainings that addressed body language. How to present yourself to a customer and how to respond to the customer’s body language. It is actually a very important facet of the sales process to ensure the customer has the best customer service experience. Comcast employs departments of people to train their sales representative’s weekly on body language and presentation.
