Deceit has been used in the past by tricking others to think you are a friend. Shakespeare showed how even person with power, like Macbeth, still deceives because he was power hungry. Macbeth was a thane of a small area when he was told of a fate to become king. After hearing this, he went insane trying to make this reality. He built friendships with the people above him including Duncan, the King. He grew skeptical after thinking about killing Duncan, but Lady Macbeth convinced him into doing it. This shows Macbeth’s deceitful appearance towards King Duncan because he acted genuine at first and then stabbed him in the back in the end. Even if we know it's wrong, people will still do anything to get what they want. The history of deceitful appearances in the past and now have shown us how hard it is to trust people. If we can't trust our presidents to not deceive their entire country, then how can you trust a friend to not hurt you behind your back.
