What do you want to be When You Grow Up?
Remember as a young child when your parents, teachers, and family members asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up? Did you ever imagine you would have picked what you are majoring in now? I did not. When I was younger, I wanted to be a singer, but I knew, after a couple of years of thinking about the musical career plan, that it wouldn’t happen. Constantly changing my mind is what I went through for the rest of my life. I never imagined I would have picked to major in psychology until after my first semester of my senior year of high school. I changed between wanting to be a Zoologist, to computer science, to psychology; and, that is just the half of it. Everyone always asks how I choose a major in psychology, I always tell them the same story. I was riding with my father one day and he and I were talking about college. He had asked me what I was planning on majoring in. I had said I wasn’t sure and that I was still choosing between several different majors. The members of my family that were in the military were my grandfather on my step-mother’s side, whom was in the Air Force, my father’s brother, whom was in the Navy, my step-brother, whom is in the Marines, and my uncle on my mother’s side, whom was in the Army. The main family member that influenced me to work with the military was my step-grandfather/grandfather. He fought in the Vietnam War and every year on the fourth of July him and my step-grandmother/grandfather would never shoot off fireworks because my grandfather would be scared in a way every time one was shot off.
