Danny is not the typical scientist.…
As a little girl, Laurie DuPuis knew exactly what she wanted to do when she grew up. When watching the crop duster fly by, she knew in her heart she was meant to be a pilot. Not many people grow up to be what they had hoped as a child, but for Laurie that was not the case. Even though her dream did come true, it wasn’t after she had already started college for other reasons. Her mother had always hoped her daughter would grow up to be a great doctor, and to make her mother happy she was going to do just that.…
The question of our childhood seemed to be one that we can all recall: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Typically, we would say things like, “I want to be an astronaut,” or, “I want to be a princess.” As kids, we think big; however, as we get older, we figure that these aspirations to be a ballerina, to be the president, become more farfetched. Instead, we set more day-to-day based goals. Our goals change all the time.…
Upon reflection of the last few years of my life, I a proud to say that I have transformed from a simple studios human into a captivating self-driven woman. Like others, when I began high school, I was relatively oblivious to the needs of others and lacked insight to who I would become. Immediately after gracing the front doors to my high school, I stumbled upon a variety of activities that satisfied my need for knowledge and my extroverted personality. As a freshman, I participated in volleyball, basketball, and outdoor track. On the academic side, I fell in love with my Health Team Relations class and began to see the beauty of helping and healing others.…
I will finish my undergraduate degree, then attend a post-baccalaureate pre med program. My goal is to become a great Ophthalmologist and continue to help people on a daily basis. As I was attending high school I couldn’t help but feel very anxious about what I was going to be doing after graduation. There was always so much pressure and I couldn’t figure out what I was good at or wanted to become.…
The area in Kinesiology that interests me the most is, Physical Therapy. There are many reasons to why i chose this profession, but my injuries, the support from my family and friends, and the adequate amount of schooling that it takes in order to become a Physical Therapist have to be the main reasons. Other than that, it also helps knowing that this profession is becoming so high in demand because of the ‘fitness boom’, and also the income of a Physical Therapist especially in San Francisco is very reassuring as well. Since i’ve been 12 years old i’ve wanted to be a Pediatrician, i wrote about it in all my school projects and even drew pictures of myself dressed in scrubs with the label “Dr. Rashidi” underneath it.…
Numerous times through the duration of our lives we are asked what we want to do when we grow up, but haven’t yet understood that…
Isla’s Journey to Medical School Throughout your childhood, you were most likely told that when you grow up, you have to be a doctor or anything that entails a high salary. As a child, you don’t really take this advice seriously since the future, in your mind, seems like centuries away. That is, until you enter your senior year of high school and suddenly memories of your parents nagging you to become a doctor resurface. At this point, you generally would either trudge along with your parent’s wishes or completely ignore what they said. Surprisingly, this was not the case for young Isla, a 17 year old senior high school student who, to her parent’s delight, always dreamed of becoming a doctor.…

Student first-day of school questionnaire ': “What are your career goals?” A question I was deliberately asked. Career Paper – Pharmacist One of the biggest decisions in life is quite simple, yet probably the hardest choice one will ever make, who they want to be when they grow up. Throughout high school everyone is given their choices and every bit of information one could possibly need about future careers, however when it comes time to decide who they are going to be, for some the choice is impossible. I have always wanted to get into the medical field; though I did not want to deal with unhealthy patients hands-on. Taking chemistry and enjoying it very much brought me to the idea of being a Pharmacist.…

Robert Frost’s poem explains my journey to medical school best. Medicine has been my plan since 3rd grade. Looking back, I can see myself standing at a crossroad debating which path to take. I chose to take the path most medical students do not – a less “traditional” path that led me to this point. I’ve encountered many challenges, experienced many setbacks, but ultimately persevered until I’ve achieved success.…
