Written goals. What does a SMART goal mean? A SMART goal is one that is specific, measurable, acceptable, realistic, and timely. Conditions that will exist when the desired outcome has been accomplished. A leader must create measurable or quantitative expectations for outcomes. A time frame for the completion of the outcome has to be present in a SMART goal. One widely method for ending up with a comprehensive written set of goals and objectives is to tie them to the budget forecast. In creating measurable interim objectives and goals, remember to use objective measures as the basis for writing goal assumptions. Objectives are discrete measures that can be timed or counted.
